Day Care:
Just Say No!

I was in college and worked at a few day
care centers to help cover the tuition.
...For daycare teachers, it is a job. These are not their children
with whom they share their hearts and souls. For the most part,
the teachers I observed were "caring" but I would not go so far as to say
that they were "loving". Only a parent (adoptive or biological) can
truly be loving to a child. There were children who I adored and maybe
at that time I would have said that I loved them. I felt that way with
many of the students I had when I taught 7th grade as well. However,
since then, I've had two sons. I realize that any warm, fuzzy feelings
I had toward children I worked with are totally eclipsed by the depth and
breadth of love I have for my own children.
This is a significant point because a teacher can not care for a child as
well as a parent can.

...Sure anyone can change a diaper and
warm a bottle, but the parent-child connection that occurs with each
minute, daily activity cannot be reproduced. Add to this the fact
that there are generally eight children for every one teacher and one
assistant, at least those were the standards when I was working in day care.
Do the math. There are not enough arms to
hold and reassure every child when he/she needs it. If
four kids are crying at once, all of their needs cannot be met. At
home, with mom or dad, that child would be picked up and given the love
he/she deserves. What child wouldn't prefer that?

...As far as what other lessons you
think your child is learning in daycare, socialization seems to come up most
often. Children don't really socialize until maybe the age of
three. Certainly before then they do not understand the true
meaning of sharing, being nice, playing with someone, etc.
The only
things young daycare children share are germs!

...I knew of a child who had something
like seven ear infections before he was even one year old. I also saw
some wicked cases of diarrhea, vomiting, sinus infections, etc. Of
course, these sick children probably should have been kept home in the first
place...
