Heard about your site from a doctor
Laura email today.
(I've had parents patting me) on the arm saying "oh you worked a double
shift today didn't you. you were here when I dropped off." AH HELLO. your
child is still here also , haven't they done a double shift?
A sad situation all around.

I am currently a director at a large
"chain" center. and of course as most, got into childcare because I did not
want my children in childcare...
I have always been conflicted about daycare, because I too feel children
should be at home with their parents if at all possible.
...Most of our children are in care over 11 hours a day. Several parents
complain that we do not serve dinner, there are some centers that do.

You have said what I have been saying
for 3 pathetic years. Daycares are awful. I currently work in a daycare and
I'm trying desperately to get out.

I just wanted to send you a quick Email
of appreciation. ... I worked full-time as a daycare teacher to support us.
It was the worst experience of my life!!!! It was not only a horrible work
environment for myself, but I was shocked and disgusted to discover what
'Daycare' constitutes. I have since not been able to stop complaining and
talking about the ills of daycare.
I just think the daycare system we have is one of the saddest things done to
children in society! I'm so glad you're doing something!!!!

I know you have a lot of warnings
against daycare (which I wholeheartedly agree with), but I want to warn
parents about Montessori "schools" as well. I worked at a Montessori for
about a year. A Montessori is just glorified day care. The parents are given
tours and shown the low bookcases full of learning-style toys that children
will supposedly explore and teach themselves with. ... there was always such
chaos that I doubt they learned much at all. I saw behavioral issues:
(very disturbing descriptions deleted by editor)...not
to mention all the angry kids who hit and shut down and lashed out at
others. We had very sad, lost children. Parents thought they were doing good
by their children and were inspired by the Montessori theory, but those
children were miserable and only wanted to be home with their parents.

I just want to put my 2 cents in about
daycare. As a former daycare worker I WILL NEVER put my children in daycare.
The things that happen are shocking. I've seen children get there food taken
from them because they were playing with it, slapped (by the manager), and
ignored. ... Daycares are the worst.

I have worked for the "day care"
industry giant for 8 years and have personally witnessed all of the
horrible, unethical and down right frightening things that I read on your
site. I've worked in places run by money grubbing, self-serving and vicious
administrators and "teachers", and I've worked in places with people who try
genuinely to care and show love to the poor abandoned kids who are there all
day long, every day. Even though there are huge differences sometimes
between "bad" facilities, "good" facilities, and the staff who work there,
they always have one thing in common... no matter how little or how much
they try, they will never be able to provide the same care, guidance or
attention that a child's parents can, and no amount of money or people can
change that. I truly love working with children and families but I am making
no difference in their lives working in daycare and it is literally
impossible to make any changes to that.... I can't even summarize the reason
why changes are impossible to make but I am sure that you know why.

With 6 kids here all day long I am
barely keeping my head above water just keeping up with the demands of this
job.
My grandchildren will go to daycare over my dead body!
When that time comes I will quit doing this professionally and watch my
grandchildren only.

I tell parents all the time that daycare
is a poor choice ...
Daycare is a horrible, horrible social experiment that our society has
accepted as O.K.
